Jose Lobaton Walk-Off Home Run Lifts Rays Over Red Sox In ALDS Game 3 (VIDEO)

Jose Lobaton prolonged the Tampa Bay Rays' postseason with a walk-off home run off Red Sox closer Koji Uehara with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 3 of this ALDS. The deep drive off Uehara dropped into the fish tank beyond the center-field wall at Tropicana Field and sealed a thrilling, season-saving 5-4 win.

The Rays' reserve catcher had entered the game as a defensive replacement in the top of the ninth. With Lobaton behind the plate, Rays closer Fernando Rodney surrendered a game-tying score to the Red Sox. With Game 3 level at 4-4 and the Red Sox holding a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series, Ben Zobrist led off the home ninth for the Rays. Uehara induced a groundout. Up next, Evan Longoria came to the plate. The All-Star third baseman lined out to center. With two outs and nobody aboard, Lobaton had his first at-bat of the game. He swung at missed at Uehara's first slider but he got ahold of the second one.

"I was looking for something soft," Lobaton said after the game, via MLB.com. "He threw it to me in a good spot, and I just hit it pretty good."

The walk-off winner was the first such postseason home run in Rays' history and the first surrendered by the Red Sox since Aaron Boone hit his iconic walk-off shot for the Yankees in Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS, according to ESPN Stats & Info.
