WATCH: Husband And Wife Become First Couple In The Country To Both Donate A Kidney

One couple is expressing their gratitude in a radical way.

FOX5 reports that San Diego couple, Charles and Alexis Wesley, recently became the first couple in the country to do both donate a kidney.

The couple's two children, a six-year-old daughter and two-year-old son, both suffer from a rare joint disorder called arthrogryposis, CBS8 reports. The Wesleys say they've received so much medical support for their children over the years that they decided to donate through the National Kidney Registry as a way to give back.

"Saving your kidney for a rainy day is like saving your fire extinguisher while watching your neighbor’s house burn," Alexis Wesley told FOX5.

When Charles Wesley read an article about donating a kidney, he decided it was the perfect way to give back. He donated his kidney in April of last year, and his wife underwent surgery on Monday night, FOX5 reports.

CBS8 reports that the Wesley's donations started chain reaction that is expected to save at least 10 lives.
