People en Español also honors acclaimed Mexican actress Kate del Castillo, who has appeared in films such as “Under the Same Moon” and the hit mini-series “La Reina Del Sur,” among the list of Latinas.

According to the magazine, del Castillo’s activism against human trafficking set her apart.

“It is a problem that is growing tremendously. It’s terrible, “del Castillo told People en Español. She joined fellow activist Marian Gonzalez del Castillo (who is unrelated to the actress) to bring awareness to the issue and provide resources and education to victims.

“Aside from saving a lot of children, [Marian] has given them an opportunity to a new life. She is a superwoman,” del Castillo said.

Also among the the list of the 25 most powerful women are Cuban-American lawyer Ana Maria Polo, known for her show “Caso Cerrado,” actress and co-founder of Voto Latino Rosario Dawson, fashion designer Rosita Hurtado and senior vice president of programming for Univision Sandra Smester, among others.

The magazine will honor this year’s 25 Most Powerful Latinas during a luncheon in Miami, Fla., on Oct. 24. Broadcaster Ilia Calderon will host the event.
