Hostage Situation At Paris Bank Ends In Arrest

A hostage situation in France ended in the arrest of the suspected gunman Friday.

According to The Associated Press, the armed man allegedly took hostages captive at a CIC bank to protest social housing. Four people were held hostage over a period of several hours Friday evening.

After the man entered the bank shortly before 5 p.m. local time, French police and SWAT teams surrounded the financial institution, located in Paris' 13th arrondissement. A police negotiator was also reportedly on the scene.

Two of the hostages were released around 5:50 p.m. and the third was freed about an hour later, Le Parisien reports. By 7:15 p.m., the gunman had released the final hostage and surrendered to authorities. There were no casualties.

According to local reports, the man demanded housing for himself and his son.
