Carolina was gifted a fluke goal when Toronto goalie Jonathan Bernier misplayed a puck that ricocheted off the boards from Hurricanes defenseman Ron Hainsey late in the third period. Hainsey was attempting to clear the puck from his own end and Bernier never tracked it down as it slid behind him and into the net. Carolina won 3-2.
