'Project Runway' Finale: Kerry Washington Guest Judge As Show Makes History (VIDEO)

'Project Runway' Finale Makes History

"Scandal" star Kerry Washington was on hand for the crowning of the latest winner on Lifetime's "Project Runway." And she got to be there on a night when the show made history, crowning its first African-American winner.

There were four designers left for the final runway, with Washington sitting in as a guest judge. In the end, though, it was Dom Streater who got to hear Heidi Klum say, "Congratulations! You are the winner of ‘Project Runway.'"

Washington was enthusiastic about this win, too, telling Dom, "We have lots to see from you moving forward. It’s very exciting.”

“I feel like I fell asleep a while ago and I’m dreaming," Dom said, in a state of dazed euphoria. She'd even momentarily forgotten that her prize was "over half a million bucks," as Klum put it.

Dom won because of her Jetsons-inspired "retro-future" collection with its dynamic and original prints. She said that this win will definitely change her life -- she'd been working two jobs to support herself before the show. Now she can turn her full attention to design.

Katie George, writing for Hollywood Life, noted that Dom made history as the show's first-ever African-American winner, saying, "Way to go, Dom!" Zap2It's Kiley Thompson was happy for her, too. "Hooray hooray! She is young and on her way, and designs for many different people and shapes," she wrote. "And her textiles and prints are amazing. She consistently designed pieces that were bold and beautiful, and had wonderful style and vision for the final show.”
