There's undoubtedly something magical about the big reveal of a new bathroom tile installation or a freshly refinished set of hardwood floors. But if you've ever actually been through a home renovation, you know that the veil of dust and layers of frustration you have to hurdle to get there, may not always be worth it.
But that doesn't mean you have to live with that drab backsplash forever. Here are five ways to refresh your home this fall without the headache of a full-out renovation.

Removable Wallpaper
This idea stuck with us when we saw it making the rounds earlier this year: Two-by-four-feet patterned strips that adhere to anything, including drab backsplashes and utilitarian radiator covers. (Ick!) Tiered paper-grade options and a wrinkle-free guarantee on sturdier ones make it easy to DIY your way to dreamier decor.
A Moveable Fireplace
While cozying up alongside a crackling fireplace is everything your pumpkin-spiced fall dreams are made of, your home (or rental) simply may not make that feasible architecturally. No sweat, says designer Kelly Edwards, who created this movable fireplace by using firewood, an electric fireplace, a sheet of Hardieboard and concrete screws for lifestyle blog A Subtle Revelry. Like its cousin, removable wallpaper, waterproof peel-and-stick decals are designed to embellish (or completely cover up) standard tiles. This version, from 2Jane, are even Nate Berkus approved.
