The Student-Inspired PSA That Should Be Shown At Every School: 'It's All About Respect'

A handful of teens of different ethnicities and backgrounds from a Minnesota high school have a powerful message for their classmates: "It's all about respect."

Watch their PSA, above, where they explain what it feels like to be a minority student at a mostly-white high school.

"Sometimes we want to have a laugh that doesn't always focus on our race, our ethnicity, or the way we look," the students say in the video. "Sometimes there's a pressure to go along with it, to appear to be cool with it, to fit in."

According to the Star Tribune, the video was filmed at Lakeville South High School last year and it was shown to classes this fall. An English and broadcast journalism teacher directed the students and helped them write the script.

Joel Varghese, a senior in the PSA, said: “Most of the time … you don’t really think about it. But you have some of those moments where you look around and you’re like, ‘Oh, wow, I’m the only minority in my class.’ ”
