Growing Up Gay In The 'Rigid, Hard, Tough' World Of Black Masculinity (VIDEO)

WATCH: Black Men Share Their Stories Of Coming Out To Their Fathers

Coming out can be difficult for anyone to do. But in the black community, where men are expected to be "rigid, hard and tough", it can be especially challenging.

HuffPost Live host Ahmed Shihab-Eldin was joined by a panel of openly gay black men who shared their experiences and challenges coming out to their families.

Deron Dalton, diversity and pop culture journalist, opened the discussion by simply stating, "Well, you're already a minority so it makes it a little bit harder."

Dalton went on to explain the specificities within the black community including standards of hyper-masculinity and spirituality that can hinder an individual's willingness to come out.
