High School Football Player Suspended Over Poem

Nick Andre was suspended from Rittman High School and kicked off the school's football team for writing a poem, as first reported by FOX 8 Cleveland. The 16-year-old junior told FOX 8 that he penned the poem as part of a writing assignment that called on students write about something that made them angry. Andre wrote about the football team's disappointing 1-7 season.

Andre's piece was titled "Stupid." Here is the text of the poem, by way of USA Today High School Sports:

Losing season,

Favoritism,

Non stop passes from best friend to best friend,

Continuously doing what doesn't work,

The inability to separate being a father and a coach,

Dropped passes,

But yet still the "super star",

Yeah right.

Where's my scholarship?

I can drop passes,

Run backwards,

Miss tackles,

And be afraid to take a hit.

That’s top of the line Div. 1 material right there.

If that’s what they wanted,

They definitely got it.

This whole town will be glad when he’s gone.

For anyone who doesn’t understand what I’m saying,

AKRON’S SCREWED!

As noted by Yahoo! Sports' high school sports blog Pep Rally, the poem seems to take aim at Rittman wide receiver Blake Dennis, who is the son of the team's coach and has committed to Akron.

"I have not and will not comment on individual student discipline," Rittman principal Nick Evans wrote in an email to FOX Sports Ohio when asked to comment on the suspension.
