When the Boston Red Sox released their roster for the World Series ahead of Game 1 at Fenway Park, the 25-man list included 13 players who did not begin the 2012 campaign in Boston. The influx of these new players -- and their beards -- as well as the trading away off several notable names by Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington helped the team follow a last-place finish a season ago with a trip to the Fall Classic in 2013.

Here is a closer look at how Cherington transformed the listless squad that struggled throughout 2012 campaign into the one that won the AL pennant in 2013.
