You Can Live Where Five Generations Of Abraham Lincoln's Family Are Spending All Eternity

Five generations of Abraham Lincoln's family will spend eternity here. Now, you can make it your home, too.

The Lincoln Homestead and Cemetery -- in Linville, Va., about two hours from Washington, D.C. -- includes a three-bedroom, two-bath home built around 1800, and 40 acres, on which you'll find a historic cemetery where Lincoln's great-grandfather is buried, along with other family members and two family slaves.

Well, yes, OK, during the Civil War, Lincoln's Virginia relatives owned slaves. The Virginia legislature noted this in a 2012 proclamation designating Feb. 12 Abraham Lincoln Day in Virginia. In an undated letter to the editor, a neighbor wrote to Capper's Magazine to describe how, 70 years after the war, one relative even stopped using the Lincoln name due to disagreements over slavery. (Uncomfortably, looking back, that letter appears to have been published in the "Good Old Days" section of the magazine).

All those relatives are dead now, and buried on land that could be yours! The property -- which is the site of the annual Lincoln Day Ceremony held by the Lincoln Society of Virginia -- is on the market for $919,000. Check out the listing here.
