John McCain Threatens To Block Janet Yellen's Fed Confirmation To Get More Benghazi Details

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is once again trying to leverage Senate approval of an Obama nominee to collect more information on the 2012 attack on U.S. facilities in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans.

McCain told The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday that he plans to block the Senate vote to confirm Janet Yellen -- an Obama nominee and liberal favorite -- as chair of the Federal Reserve.

"That's the only way we get their attention," McCain said told the Journal. "It's the only way we get any response."

On Monday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said he'd hold up all federal nominations for federal positions until survivors of the Benghazi attack appear before Congress.

"Where are the #Benghazi survivors?" Graham said on his official Twitter account. "I'm going to block every appointment in the US Senate until they are made available to Congress."

The tactic has worked for Graham and McCain in the past. The duo led Senate Republicans in blocking the vote on Obama's nomination of Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel in February until the administration disclosed information about the president's actions following the attack. Later that month, Republicans threatened to block Obama's nomination of CIA Director John Brennan unless documents related to Benghazi were released.
