'The Vampire Diaries' Reveals Surprising Connection Between Katherine And Nadia (VIDEO)

Katherine And Nadia's Surprising Connection On 'The Vampire Diaries

Nadia has been hunting Katherine for centuries, and this week on "The Vampire Diaries," we finally found out why.

“My name is Nadia Petrova, and you are my mother," Nadia told a shellshocked Katherine. She said that Katherine had hung herself, becoming a vampire and abandoning her daughter. But Katherine confessed to Nadia that she had gone back to look for her daugther only a few years later -- she'd been in hiding. She couldn't find her, though. Kind of took the bite out of centuries of Nadia's hate at being abandoned, findng out that her mother had looked for her.

Hollywood Life's Andy Swift called the reveal the "biggest shocker of the night." He went on to say, "It wasn’t the reunion I’m sure Nadia had hoped for — Katherine had just impaled her with a huge piece of wood moments before the big reveal.” TV Fanatic's Matt Richenthal gave the show credit for sticking true to her backstory but that was about it. "We were told a long time ago that Katherine gave birth to a girl deemed ‘illegitimate’ and was therefore banished to England," he wrote. "But does anyone really care to see history resurrected in the form of Nadia? Katherine has never really been a real character. She's been used as plot device again and again, showing up whenever the writers needed to find a convenient way to move the story forward. And, my goodness, she just won't die!”

And Katherine didn't die again. At the end of the episode, she was drained by Silas, but she somehow continues to survive. "The Vampire Diaries" continues on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
