Sixth Man Charged In Mass Shooting That Injured 3-Year-Old Boy

CHICAGO — Police have arrested and charged a sixth man in connection to the September mass shooting in Back of the Yards that shocked the city.

Darren Curtis, 28, of the 5600 block of South Wolcott Avenue, was charged with three counts each of attempted murder and aggravated battery. Police said Curtis was arrested Friday, and was identified as participating in the shooting, which wounded 3-year-old Deonta Howard in the face.

Five other men were charged in the weeks following the Sept. 19 shooting, which wounded 13 people during a pickup basketball game at Cornell Square Park.

Police say the shooting was gang related, and was revenge after one of the shooters was grazed by a bullet earlier in the day.
