E-cigarettes have been marketed as the safer alternative to cigarettes -- and a more exotic one too, producing vapor in flavors like mango, bubble gum and apple pie instead of smoke. However, without FDA regulation there's too much we don't know to be able call these products truly safe. In the clip above, Fusion's Dan Lieberman investigates what exactly is going on behind the scenes in the vapor labs creating the products.
While e-cigarettes have the potential to be safer than tobacco, doctors worry about the long-term effects of nicotine vapor that are as-yet unknown. E-cigarettes haven't been around long enough; the early adopters are essentially lab rats, as Fusion points out.
