16 Uses Of Time Travel That Will Probably Just Make You Want To Watch 'Back To The Future'

Time travel is a tricky thing. It's a go-to plot device for movies that want to throw anachronistic conceits into a story set in the present day ... or set in the past ... or in the future. Point being, it's used a lot. Sometimes, it's clever ("Midnight in Paris," "Back to the Future"); other times, it's "Click."

The latest movie to adopt this fickle ploy is "About Time," a rom-com from the mind of Richard Curtis ("Love Actually," "Four Weddings and a Funeral"). Starring Rachel McAdams and Domhnall Gleeson, "About Time" centers on Tim, who turns 21 and learns that the men in his family are capable of traveling back and forth in time between moments in their lives.

Critics were mostly pleased with the results, but where does the movie sit on our Time Travel Matrix? We've assessed the quality of 16 time-travel films, relative to where their respective characters venture. See our findings below, and be sure to weigh in on which movies you think navigate the trope best.
