An Instagram photo of a mountain of fast food fare helped investigators track down four suspects in a series of car burglaries near Sacramento, Calif., last weekend.
Three adults and one juvenile had taken to Instagram to brag about their $120 splurge at fast food chain Carl's Jr. purchased with a credit card stolen out of one of four vehicles they had robbed last night. Investigators tracked the card's use and contacted Carl's Jr., where employees had remembered the suspicious purchase and taken note of the suspects' license plate number.
The police then began a search for the vehicle and arrested the suspects the following day in nearby Rocklin., Calif., after seeing the vehicle speed into a Walgreens parking lot.
“I was the one who wrote down the license plate, because I thought it was weird," employee Katelyn Hubick told the Sacramento Bee. "We never see orders that big, never. And the fact that they would pay for the person behind them, and didn’t know how much that order was."
According to the Sacramento Bee, another employee blown away by the spending also took to Instagram to post a photo of the receipt from the order, which Hubick said included five $6 burgers, five orange creme shakes, three barbecue chicken quesadillas, one bacon swiss chicken sandwich, two double western sandwiches, two orders of fried zucchini, six orders of cross-cut fries, two teriyaki burgers, with added bacon, two barbecue chicken sandwiches with added bacon, and five southwest chicken tacos with added sour cream.
“I’m glad we caught them,” Sgt. Scott Horrillo said. “Sometimes, technology acts in our favor; sometimes, it doesn’t. This time it did.”
