Jose Fernandez, Grandmother Reunite: NL Rookie Of The Year Gets Emotional Surprise (VIDEO)

NL Rookie of the Year Jose Fernandez received an amazing surprise on Sunday when he reunited with his grandmother, Olga, for the first time since he left Cuba for the U.S.

The Marlins ace, who left Cuba when he was 15 years old, told MLB.com in an interview that his grandmother was not allowed to leave Cuba.

"The most important person in my life, that I would love for her to see me pitch in the big leagues would be my grandma," said Fernandez. "She's in Cuba. Unfortunately she's not allowed to come here. She can't. But that would be the person who would make me really happy to be here and watch me pitch."

According to the Miami Herald, Cuban authorities gave her permission to visit. During the interview, Fernandez said "I don't think she will be here" when asked what his grandmother would tell him if she were there.

Then, his grandmother walked through the door. The next day, Fernandez, sitting with his mother and grandmother, was named NL Rookie of the Year.
