One of the most amazing things about living in the digital age is the capacity for near-instant connection.
A perfect example of that is the story of Elizabeth "Betsy" Boys, a Southport, Ind., woman who was adopted as a baby 29 years ago yet found her biological family in less than two days with Facebook's help.
Boys told ABC that she always knew she was adopted, but she hadn't seriously entertained searching for her birth parents until her sister, who was also adopted, found her biological family two years ago.
"It inspired me," Boys told ABC. "I've always wanted to find [my biological mother], but I had an awesome childhood so I was a little hesitant. I didn't want to juggle things up. There was a little part of me that was scared of the result."
But last week, Boys was kicked into gear after seeing a story on "Today" about another woman reuniting with her birth mother, the Indianapolis Star reported.
She began her search by setting up a Facebook page called "Betsy's biological Journey" and posting the following message: "My name is Elizabeth Boys aka Betsy. I was born at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, IN on May 29th, 1984. I am searching for my biological mother."
In just 36 hours, a cousin, an aunt and her 27-year-old biological brother, Toby Hardy, had reached out to her, according to ABC. She met Hardy on Sunday.
“When I first saw him, I did feel like I had known him my whole life,” Boys told the Star. “He just kept looking at me and saying, 'Oh my gosh, you sound just like our mom.'"
Boys has not yet met her birth mother, who is unwell, but she's learned much about her through other family members.
Though her own quest is still ongoing, Boys has already begun helping others who are searching for family and have reached out to her on Facebook. In just a week, her page has drawn 6,500 followers.
“That would be so selfish of me, to be like, ‘Thanks, I found mine,’ and just ignore everybody else,” she told the Star.
