In the words of Sherlock Holmes, "There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact."
In a video posted to YouTube by high school sports blog MaxPreps, El Camino's junior varsity quarterback Jahlil Pinkett takes his place behind center, leans in to receive the snap, then stands up and jogs toward the sideline, shouting something about "having the wrong ball."
But once he clears the edge of the defensive formation, Pinkett tucks the ball, makes a sharp left turn and runs into the end zone. A referee, clearly caught off guard, sprints down the sidelines after him.
The Los Angeles Times has labeled it football's "trick play of the year," noting that the 80-yard touchdown contributed to a final score of 52-6.
We couldn't agree more.
