Mexican Drug Cartel Joins Instagram

Almost everyone is on social media these days and Mexican drug cartels are no exception. An Instagram account created on Monday claimed to represent the Gulf Cartel in Matamoros, Mexico.

The account, which was later deleted, featured photos of several guns in addition to some of the organization’s gunmen, as seen below.

The cartel has profiles on several other social media sites, including Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. These accounts have bolstered the organization’s popularity throughout Mexico.

A video of the cartel providing food aid in response to Hurricane Ingrid has more than 500,00 views on YouTube, whereas the Mexican President’s State of the Union address has about 16,000.
