New Jersey Explores Disaster-Safe 'Microgrid'

ATLANTIC CITY—The Christie administration is pushing forward with an effort to build an independent electricity grid that could keep mass transit systems running in the event of a major disaster.

If funded, the “microgrid” could keep PATH, the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, Amtrak and NJ Transit north of Princeton operational in the event of a widespread power outage in the state.
