Jon Stewart Reminds Us Why 'The Nuclear Option' Is Kind Of A Dumb Nickname

'It's Like Hiroshima... Of Voting!'

Jon Stewart opened Thursday's "Daily Show" with the biggest news of the day: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid invoking the so-called "nuclear option" that changed Senate rules to allow executive and federal judicial nominees be approved with a simple majority instead of a two thirds majority, effectively ending the possibility for the minority party to filibuster nominees.

In other words, a lot less explosive than one might expect.

"So, deciding to allow majority rules to incrementally increase government efficiency in presidential appointments is so unthinkably extreme, it's the 'nuclear option'?" Stewart said. "It's just like the Hiroshima... of voting!"

He poked fun at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's warning to the majority party, claiming that they would one day regret their actions.

"Mark my words!" Stewart bellowed, pretending to be McConnell. "One day you Democrats will want to be obstructionist assholes making a mockery of our system of government? And who'll be laughing then? Turtle man!"
