CTA Holiday Train Schedule 2013: Where, When To Ride With Santa This Year

The CTA Holiday Train Returns! How To Ride With Santa

It's that time of year again, folks!

Beginning Friday, the CTA's Holiday Train will kick off its 22nd annual run, offering riders the chance to catch a peek of Santa and ride in fully decked-out, holiday spectacular rail cars.

This year, the Holiday Train will again kick off its run for three days on the Green Line before moving on to the city's other train lines as the days count down toward the end of the holiday season.

The train will run from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays on the following lines:

  • Green Line -- Nov. 29, 30; Dec. 3
  • Orange/Brown Line -- Dec. 4-7
  • Pink Line -- Dec. 10-11
  • Blue Line -- Dec. 12-14 (plus photo-only Dec. 14 stop on Pink Line)
  • Red Line -- Dec. 17, 19, 21
  • Purple Line -- Dec. 18, 20-21
  • Yellow Line -- Dec. 23

The CTA's schedule will update with more specific times on each line's turn as the Holiday Train as the weeks go on.

The holiday train tradition began in 1992 when a "Season's Greetings from the CTA" sign was affixed to the front of a train delivering food to charities. Today, the train delivers some 300 fully-stocked food baskets to 30 area charity groups.
