The holiday season is the happiest time of the year — although, unfortunately, not for everyone. For the hundreds of thousands of immigrant families who have seen their loved ones deported or who live in terror of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) knocking on their door to take away their parents, their children or their spouses, the holiday season is particularly sad.

After all, despite the many promises and torrents of compassionate words, deportations keep moving full speed ahead and immigration reform is not more than an increasingly sad pipe-dream. For these immigrants, there was not much to celebrate this Thanksgiving — and there won’t be much to celebrate this Christmas.
