Oh, Boris.
London's colorful, outspoken mayor Boris Johnson found himself in the hot seat during a phone-in radio show Tuesday when host Nick Ferrari ambushed the politician with a few questions from "an official IQ test," the BBC reports. Johnson answered two of the questions incorrectly and refused to answer a third.
Clearly uncomfortable with the queries, the Oxford-educated mayor bristled when Ferrari began the segment, protesting that the questions were not relevant to the discussion. Ferrari pressed on, however, first asking Johnson a question about a bear and a house.
"A man builds a house with four sides of rectangular construction," Ferrari said. "Each side having a southern exposure. A big bear comes along. What color is the bear?"
"The bear is probably brown," Johnson replied. "I haven't got a clue what the color of the bear is."
"Take two apples from three apples," Ferrari asked next. "What do you have?"
"You have… you've got loads of apples, mate," Johnson replied this time, clearly annoyed. "You've got one apple left." (The correct answer to this question was two apples, however, reports the Guardian.)
The last question Ferrari asked began, "I went to bed at 8 o'clock in the evening, and I wound up my clock to set the alarm to sound at 9 o'clock in the morning. How many hours of sleep would I get before being woken by the alarm?"
Completely fed up at this point, Johnson replied that he didn't care, had slept like a log the night before and was "waiting for some more sensible questions."
The mayor's arguably embarrassing moment came on the heels of controversial comments he made during a speech last week, in which the politician claimed "16 percent of our species have an IQ below 85" and claimed inequality fostered a sort of galvanizing spirit of envy, the Guardian notes.
Several British politicians criticized Johnson after the speech, with Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg quoted as saying the mayor's comments reveal a “fairly unpleasant, careless elitism,” according to The Telegraph.
