Officer Kevin Jones Appears To Throw Kathleen Mary Allegrone, 70, To Ground (VIDEO)

WATCH: Officer Body Slams Older Woman

A police officer is back on the job days after video surfaced of him appearing to throw a 70-year-old woman face-first into the ground.

The Florida Times Union reports that Police Chief Matt Doering said Glynn County officer Kevin Jones "acted reasonably" during the Dec. 5 incident that took place in St. Simons Island, Ga.

Kathleen Mary Allegrone was being arrested for alleged drunk driving when she got into a physical altercation that got caught on tape. Authorities claim she was resisting arrest.

In the video shown above, Jones can be seen throwing Allegrone to the pavement, according to the New York Daily News.

In the video, pedestrians get in the view of the camera just as the altercation appears to take place. The next thing you see is Jones hurling Allegrone.

Her head makes a thud sound as it hits the ground. Allegrone "suffered a bloody nose and an abrasion on the bridge of her nose," according to the Times Union.

But Doering said the senior citizen dug her nails into Jones' hand and wrist and that his officer was justified in throwing her to the ground to prevent her from doing so.

"I was stunned really. I think everyone was," said "Brett", a witness who declined to give his full name to First Coast News.

Retired FBI Agent, Ron Wirth told WTEV that he suspects the video could be somewhat misleading.

"I find it difficult to believe that an officer would sling someone to the ground," Wirth said. "I got a feeling the movement got out of control and she ends up on the ground."

Jones is now back on the job and was apparently not disciplined for his role in the altercation. A spokesperson for the Glynn County police department did not immediately return a call for comment from The Huffington Post.

Allegrone was charged with driving under the influence and willful obstruction of law enforcement officers.
