Meredith Vieira Has 'Mixed Feelings' About Covering The Olympics

Meredith Vieira was very open with her hesitations regarding the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, which currently has people wondering how Russia's anti-gay laws will impact the games.

Vieira — who will be co-hosting NBC's coverage of the opening ceremony — said she has "mixed feelings" about reporting on the Olympics, adding that she and others at the network struggled with the decision to travel to Russia.

"There was a lot of debate internally," Vieira told Jay Leno on "The Tonight Show" Monday. "Do we want to go, do we not want to go? At the end of the day, it's about the athletes."

And even though the talk show host expressed hopes the Olympics will bring people together, she said Russia's anti-gay legislation should not go unchallenged.

"I really hope that people demonstrate there," Vieira said. "I think Putin would be crazy to do anything during the time that people are there...but then I think he is a little off the wall."
