Steve Stockman Touts NRA Endorsement That Went To His Opponent

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) has a steep climb ahead of him in his bid to unseat two-term Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) next year. But at least he's got the support of the National Rifle Association.

Well, that's not true. In fact, the NRA publicly endorsed Cornyn on Wednesday. But Stockman's campaign website suggests otherwise.

The tea party congressman lists the powerful gun rights group among those giving him an endorsement. Curiously, his website lumps his "past and present endorsements" all into one list, which confuses whether the groups listed are endorsing his current Senate bid or his past run for Congress.

NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam was clear that the gun group is solidly behind Cornyn.

"NRA is not endorsing Rep. Stockman, or supporting him," said Arulanandam. "Any claims to the contrary by him are totally false."

A spokesman for Stockman did not respond to a request for comment.
