10 Awesome Things Fraternities And Sororities Did This Holiday Season

Philanthropy is a part of Greek life, as any sorority sister or fraternity brother knows, and many chapters were sure to keep that going during 2013 holiday season.

We went through local news clips to find some examples of Greek houses doing awesome things this year and rounded them up below:

Penn State's Light Show
The Penn State Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic organizations team up each year to decorate their houses with Christmas lights and then offer tours to the community. It's free but people are encouraged to bring canned goods to donate. This year 31 fraternities and 19 sororities are participating. (Note: video above is from a previous year)

Keeping The Lights On
Members of the Angelo State University fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi and sorority Tau Beta Sigma greeted cars attempting to visit the Christmas Tour of Lights along the Concho river in San Angelo, Texas. The Greeks volunteered to collect donations for cars entering the annual holiday celebration.

Annual Food Donation
It's not just current students: Kappa Alpha Psi alumni in Louisville, Ken. donated enough food for a full meal to 15 families. The group has donated more than 35,000 pounds of food to needy families since 1984.
Infant-Sized Stockings
In Wisconsin Rapids, the Gamma Phi and Beta Sigma Phi sororities continued a 22-year tradition of creating large Christmas stockings to send home newborns in.

The Kappa Sigma fraternity at Kent State University collected 200 teddy bears in just a few days at the start of the month to donate to sick children. The group hoped to have a few thousand bears by Christmas to deliver to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland. As of Christmas Eve, they had more than 2,000 stuffed bears.
15 Years Of Clothes
The Phi Beta Sigma fraternity in Albany, Ga. held a clothing drive for the 15th year in a row.
