The blog Wampum cracked open the 2000 Republican platform and found this:
In a time of fluid change and uncertainty, intelligence is truly America’s first line of defense. The current administration has weakened that defense by allowing a series of shocking security breaches, from blatant espionage ... to sheer sloppiness at the highest levels of government.
This must stop, immediately. Nor should the intelligence community be made the scapegoat for political misjudgments.
A Republican administration working with the Congress will respect the needs and quiet sacrifices of these public servants as it strengthens America’s intelligence and counter-intelligence capabilities and reorients them toward the dangers of the future.
Would someone in the White House care to answer these questions?
1. Did the Bush Administration "respect the needs and quiet sacrifices" of Valerie Plame Wilson when it blew her cover?
2. How is the Bush Administration preventing "shocking security breaches," when it has been 741 days since Karl Rove violated his classified information nondisclosure agreement without the White House taking the required "corrective action"?
3. Isn't dumping on Joe Wilson's mission for the CIA, instead of admitting that Saddam wasn't trying to get uranium from Niger, turning the "intelligence community" into "the scapegoat for political misjudgments"?
