Dog Guards Dead Friend In Freezing Temperatures, Proves Never-Ending Love Exists

A dog braved freezing temperatures to guard the dead body of a canine companion in a touching display of devotion.

A heartbreaking video of the pooch, who is being called the "Good Samaritan dog," and his deceased friend went viral online. In the clip, the dog can be seen curled up next to his buddy, who was hit by a car on Dec. 22, in the middle of a busy road in Yinchuan, China, according to Sky News. He refused to leave the body, even when temperatures dipped to a frigid 8 degrees Fahrenheit.

In the video, a stool can be seen next to the two animals. An onlooker put it there to alert drivers and prevent another incident.

A restaurant owner moved the dead dog to the side of the road, but the Good Samaritan pup remained close by, per Sky News. The dog was eventually buried under a tree in a nearby park.

This is not the first time a dog has taught us about never-ending love.

In December 2012, a stray dog stood guard over his female companion after she was hit by a car and killed in another province of China, according to the New York Daily News. He stayed with her for more than six hours and even tried nudging her from time to time, as if to wake her.

A black Labrador in California stood by her four-legged friend after the dog was struck by an oncoming car, Time reported earlier in 2012. She watched over the body until the local animal care department came and picked them up. The dog, named Grace, was later offered up for adoption.
