While the de Blasio family has yet to cement an official move-in date, the decision to take up residence at Gracie Mansion marks the first time a mayor has lived there in twelve years.

De Blasio's predecessor, Michael Bloomberg, opted to live at his East 79th Street apartment instead.

“For a variety of reasons, like logistical and security concerns, we’ve decided to move to Gracie Mansion," de Blasio said announcing his decision to make the move from Park Slope. "It’s a practical choice but one that we make with respect and gratitude for the people of New York City.”

"It’s something I haven’t seen a mayor do, invite people like that, and there’s a good chance you get to meet him," guest Kevin Dunbar told The New York Times during his visit on Sunday. "It’s my first time here in Gracie Mansion. I’ve never been invited. It’s out of sight.”

The mansion was home to mayors from Fiorello H. La Guardia in 1942 to Rudolph W. Giuliani in 2003.
