Tray Chaney From 'The Wire' Talks Typecasting And His Latest Role

How Tray Chaney Broke Away From 'The Wire'

After spending multiple seasons watching your favorite television characters, it can be hard to disassociate the actor from the iconic role -- you'd probably yell "b-tch" if you saw Aaron Paul in public, don't deny it. However, Tray Chaney, most known as Poot from HBO's "The Wire," has been trying to break away from his drug dealing character since the show ended in 2008.

Chaney sat down with HuffPost Live to discuss being typecast and how his new project separates him from his role on one of the most celebrated shows in TV history. "I get other roles, but it might be along the lines of the Poot character," Chaney said. Since "The Wire," however, the actor has started his own production company. "Not only are we doing music, but we're doing films."

Chaney stars in latest film, "6 Hearts 1 Beat" (which he also produced) , as a "suit and tie wearing" character who falls in love with a young mother of four. "The Wire" actor explained how the film shows his range as an actor.

While we'll probably see Chaney in more roles to come, we can't promise we'll ever forget his infamous drug slinger.
