'Pretty Little Liars' Winter Premiere Becomes Most Tweeted Season Premiere ... Ever

If you've ever doubted the influence of ABC Family's hit show, "Pretty Little Liars," joke's on you. The winter premiere of Season 4B generated more than 1.3 million tweets by nearly 700,00 users, according to SocialGuide. Peaking at 30,000 tweets per minute, the winter premiere of "Pretty Little Liars" was the most-tweeted season premiere in television history.

But this comes as no surprise to "Pretty Little Liars" fans. Back in August, the show's summer finale became the most-tweeted series TV episode ever and garnered 1.9 million tweets by 637,000 users, peaking at 70,000 tweets per minute.

"Pretty Little Liars," like "Scandal," uses Twitter aggressively during live airings, with highlighted hashtags (#WorldWarA, anybody?) to engage viewers. The network, the show's stars, its writers and producers all live tweet along, asking fans to tweet them their questions and comments using the hashtag #PLLChat. Earlier this year, SocialGuide calculated that "Pretty little Liars" had nearly 11 million related tweets in the first half of 2013, making it the top "tweetiest" show.

The "Pretty Little Liars" winter premiere featured a few big reveals and (SPOILER ALERT) the breakup of #Haleb, Hanna and Caleb. When HuffPostTV caught up with showrunner Marlene King, she commented on the couple's tearful goodbye. "Hanna is the love of Caleb’s life. He says it out loud in 'Ravenswood.' He’ll continue to say it out loud often and everything he does, even if it’s a heartbreaker, is always to protect her." Hopefully that puts fans -- and tweeters -- at ease.
