Wednesday was a day that Savannah Guthrie probably won't forget any time soon.

The "Today" co-host got to witness former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords skydiving to mark the anniversary of the shooting that severely wounded her three years ago. Guthrie traveled to Eloy, Ariz., to interview Giffords, and was on the plane wishing the former Arizona congresswoman good luck right before Giffords took the big leap. "Today" aired the moment on Thursday morning.

"It was truly amazing," Guthrie said about Giffords' jump.

"This was Gabby's moment and it was incredible to watch her jump," the host said. "I have to say, she makes it look easy. I was more nervous when that door opened... I don't think her heart rate went up even an inch. She was just absolutely calm."

Guthrie, who grew up in Arizona, added that the assignment struck a personal chord with her. "Growing up in Tucscon and just knowing Gabby, just following what happened that day — the Safeway where she was shot is the same Safeway my mom shops at every single week — it was just a very momentous time and I feel privileged to share that with her."
