How To Survive Winter With Your Dog (VIDEO)

WATCH: Your Dog Gets Cabin Fever During The Winter, Too

There's nothing better on a frigid winter day than curling up on the couch for a few hours of one-on-one time with your Netflix account. But while episode after episode of "Scandal" may be enough to engage you for the day, your four-legged friend needs a little more than that.

Joshua Axelband, the general manager of Petco's Union Square location in New York City, told HuffPost Live's Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani that dogs experience cabin fever just like people do, and it's important to keep them occupied while they're stuck inside.

"Dogs pick up on that and realize that it's cold outside and they're not able to go outside and play, so they need that interaction with a human," he said. "During that time that you're interacting with them, you're also getting stimulated. You're getting excited because you're making your pet happy."

Axelband shares plenty other tips about preparing your pup for cold weather, including whether they really need a sweater or booties to go out for a walk, in the video above.
