Lindsey Graham Defends Roger Ailes On Immigration

Graham Defends Roger Ailes

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is defending Fox News chief Roger Ailes from claims on immigration made in a new biography by Gabriel Sherman.

Graham told the Wall Street Journal he met with Ailes "at least three to four times" over last year's immigration bill, working with the Fox News chief to strike an appropriate rhetoric during Fox's coverage of the negotiations.

“People who observed the debate noticed that the tone was different and not so one-sided. It wasn’t ‘amnesty’ every 15 minutes," Graham said.

The Wall Street Journal reports on the biography's claims:

The new book, which goes on sale Tuesday, is titled “The Loudest Voice in the Room: How the Brilliant, Bombastic Roger Ailes Built Fox News and Divided a Country.” It recounts a conversation in which Mr. Ailes said that if he were president, he would send Navy SEALs in training to the border as part of a certification process.

“I would make it a requirement that you would have to personally kill an illegal immigrant coming into the country. They would have to bring home a dead body,” Mr. Ailes told a local politician, according to the book.

The book also highlights alleged instances of sexism and Ailes' fight to elect a Republican president.

Ailes and other Fox News employees have rejected the book's claims. Ailes told the Hollywood Reporter that publisher "Random House refused to fact check the content with me or Fox News," and Fox host Sean Hannity called the book's author a "phony journalist."
