Mitt Romney Speaks About 'Obstacles': 'Success Is Entirely Within Your Control'

Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney opened up about "obstacles" he's faced in politics, business and academics while speaking at a conference for young single adult members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, according to Deseret News.

“The good news is that by God’s measure, success is entirely within your control. It is not in any way subject to serendipity or luck or chance," Romney said. "It is up to you alone.”

Romney joked about his failed presidential campaign while standing alongside presidents from five stakes, or administrative units of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“I am the only man on the stage that is not president,” Romney said. “I tried to fix that.”

Romney repeated his claim that anyone who gets the chance to run for president should take it.

“So a lot of people look back on [the election] and say, ‘It must have been awful,'" Romney said. “I loved it. It was fabulous. It was a great experience. If you get the chance to run for president, do it.”

Romney has made that claim before, saying running for president is "a great experience." But the former Massachusetts governors said a presidential campaign does have obstacles.

“It is a challenge. But it is also a terrific experience,” Romney said.
