Lately, networks have been scrambling to defend the storylines of their most popular shows, first with "Downton Abbey," and now with "Dexter."

Remember that awful series finale of "Dexter," when (spoiler alert!) a flash-forward revealed Dexter Morgan to be exiled in Oregon working as a lumberjack? Yeah, it was a major letdown for fans.

At the Television Critics Association press tour on Thursday (Jan. 16), Entertainment President David Nevins supported the storyline, saying, “I think the fundamental design of where they ended 'Dexter' was really well conceived. He had to sacrifice the one person who was closest to him in the world and he had to leave.”

Nevins also addressed the rumors about Showtime preventing producers from killing off Dexter, claiming that it was never discussed and that "no one even brought up the idea.” Regarding the possibility of a "Dexter" spin-off, he confirmed that nothing is in the works, but if it did happen, Michael C. Hall would have to be involved. “I would only do it with Michael,” said Nevins.
