A 'Barbarella' TV Series Is Happening

The hardcore Nicolas Winding Refn ("Drive," "Only God Forgives") fans knew a "Barbarella" TV series was in the works a year and a half ago, but now it's officially happening.

Adding to its growing list of original series, Amazon Studios will develop the pilot for "Barbarella," which was written by "Skyfall" screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.

"Barbarella," based on the French comics by Jean-Claude Forest, was brought to cult fame by the 1968 sci-fi film starring Jane Fonda. Set in the future, the film follows the titular sexpot crime-fighter tasked with stopping an evil weapons inventor known as Durand-Durand.

If that description doesn't sound awesome enough for a TV reboot, let us remind you that it will be helmed by "Drive" director Refn. We can see the gory laser-gun-inflicted wounds and synth-soundtracked space fight scenes already. Now we're just left to wonder if Ryan Gosling will make a cameo in a flashy space suit.
