Jezebel Responds To Lena Dunham's 'Girls' Reference

Here's How Jezebel Feels About That 'Girls' Reference

On Sunday night's (Jan. 26) episode of "Girls," Hannah Horvath referred to Jezebel as a "place feminists can go to support one another, which we need in this modern world full of slut-shaming," issuing a collective gasp from all who had been following the Jezebel/Vogue controversy.

Although the episode was written and shot months ago -- and show creator Lena Dunham tweeted that the reference was DEFINITELY sarcastic -- the site doesn't hate her description.

I think Hannah's description of Jezebel, sarcastic or not, falls in line with how a lot of people view this site -- which is probably why they get so pissed off when they eventually realize that Jezebel is not a place of unconditional support of women just because they're feminists. Feminism itself isn't even like that. The movement has been rife with infighting and debate about its direction since its inception. Dissent is important because it's what helps keep a movement from becoming static.

In case you missed it, earlier this month Jezebel offered $10,000 for un-retouched photos from Dunham's Vogue shoot. They got their (very expensive) wish, and the site published the photos shortly afterward.

Unfortunately for Jezebel, Dunham didn't have the most positive reaction to their Vogue takedown.

So, will Jezebel be getting any more "Girls" shout-outs? Somehow we don't think so.

"Girls" airs on Sundays at 10 p.m. EST on HBO.
