Reporter Threatened By Congressman: 'I've Never Encountered Anything Like That'

'I've Never Encountered Anything Like That'

The reporter who was verbally and physically threatened by a congressman after the State of the Union on Tuesday told CNN he had never had an experience like that in his career.

The video of New York Republican Michael Grimm telling NY 1 reporter Michael Scotto he was going to "throw you off this f---ing balcony" and "break you in half" for mentioning his campaign finance controversies went viral on Tuesday night. Scotto spoke to CNN's Chris Cuomo on Wednesday morning.

"I'm a New York City reporter," he said. I'm used to pushback. But I've never encountered anything like that."

Grimm, he said, had seemed "really infuriated."

Scotto added that he was startled that Grimm would make such threats when he knew that he was in front of a microphone.

"He knew that this was essentially...a live situation," he said. "He knew the camera was rolling."

After initially defending his actions, Grimm later apologized to Scotto.
