A young Louisiana teen has been charged with animal cruelty after video surfaced of him allegedly smacking a puppy across the face and head.
Video of the incident came to the attention of Alexandria police over the weekend through multiple sources who saw the video on the teen's Facebook and other social media sites, KSLA reported.
The 13-year-old boy, who has not been named, was charged Monday in connection to the animal abuse complaint.
The seven-second video is disturbing. In it, the teen can be seen placing the small puppy down. As it moves about, the suspect is seen delivering a fast and powerful blow to the small dog's face and head. The puppy gives a loud yelp, its body spinning around, before it runs away from the suspect. In the background, laughter can be heard.
The puppy has been removed from the home by animal control and is now at a shelter, according to KALB.
A veterinarian who examined the puppy said it suffered no serious injuries.
In September, a pit bull puppy in New York was badly "butchered," according to the Nassau County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, when its ears and leg were cut off. That investigation is ongoing.
