Jackie Collins: 'I Am A Feminist In My Own Particular Way'

One Thing That Really Pisses Jackie Collins Off

Jackie Collins is one of the most famous and influential female authors on the planet, but she doesn't really relate to the term "feminist."

"'Feminist' always conjures up a picture of a bunch of women ripping off their bras and throwing them away, which is so ridiculous," she told HuffPost Live. "It's kind of like a cliche." (It's important to note that the bra-burning stereotype is actually rooted in a myth sparked by a 1968 protest.)

Still, Collins says she's committed to honoring the power of women even if she's not crazy about the "feminist" label.

"I am a feminist in my own particular way. Of course I want equal rights for women, and I've always written about the double standard that exists between men and women, and it really pisses me off," she said.

So what does a powerful woman like Collins do when she's confronted with sexism? She does something pretty amazing, according to a story she shared about an interview she once did in New York with "one of the big papers."

"I was doing the interview at a private conference room. As I walked out of the conference room, the guy pinched my ass. I thought, 'How dare you?'" she said. "So you know what I did? I just turned around, smiled and pinched his ass and then walked out. I thought, 'There's equality for you.'"
