While many personalities thrive in the cutthroat and competitive fashion industry (here's looking at you, Anna Wintour), sometimes the intense pressure is just too much.
HuffPost Live spoke with a few women who burnt out while working the long hours that the industry demands. For Christina Anderson, who worked at Elle, Harper's Bazaar and Jane before becoming executive editor of Elizabeth Street, it was partially the absurdity of it all that led to her breaking point.
"A lot of the sort of thing you saw in 'The Devil Wears Prada' really was true," she said. "I started on a salary of $20,000 a year and would deal with everything from cover shoots where Mariah Carey needed to have straws from McDonald's, to shoots with Janet Jackson where she could only have white candles in her dressing room."
