Critics Slam 'SNL' Black History Month Skit As Lazy

There's no doubt that race and comedy have been a hot topic lately, and though Saturday Night Live made significant changes to its staff after recent criticism, the show took its acknowledgement of race one step further by celebrating Black History Month on Saturday.

The show made waves last week with the skit "28 Reasons To Hug A Black Guy," featuring Jay Pharoah, Kenan Thompson and Sasheer Zamata. And while some found the sketch hilarious, others weren't so amused.

Boston Globe writer James H. Burnett III, Media Make Change founder Tara Conley and comedian Amanda Seales joined Marc Lamont Hill on HuffPost Live to discuss the topic. Burnett called the skit "lazy" and lacking in its ability to be funny while simultaneously making a statement.

"I thought SNL was lazy, I thought the approach was lazy," he said. "There are so many better ways to use humor to approach the issues of race relations and serious topics that involve race in this country than simply blurting out slavery 28 times."
