PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) — Congressman Paul Gosar is having hip-replacement surgery.

Spokesman Garrett Hawkins says the 55-year-old Arizona Republican's surgery is taking place Friday in his home state.

According to Hawkins, Gosar has been having increasing discomfort in his hip as a result of playing rugby during his college and graduate school years.

Hawkins says recoveries from hip replacements can take up to 20 days and that Gosar won't be able to return to Washington until his doctor clears him to fly once the risk of blood clots has passed.

Gosar is serving his second term in the House. He represents Arizona's 4th Congressional District, which includes west-central and northwestern Arizona.

Hawkins says Gosar has been in Arizona this week for tests and other preparations for the surgery.
