'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' Coming To Netflix, Including Final Season

Netflix Debuting Original 'Star Wars' Content

"Star Wars" fans have been fretting and wondering when they might get to see the end of the "Clone Wars" saga that unfolded on Cartoon Network over five seasons. After Disney acquired LucasFilms, "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" was one of the first casualties. With a new series, "Star Wars: Rebels," announced for Disney XD, "Clone" fans were left still waiting. But now, the wait is nearly over.

The final 13 episodes of "The Clone Wars" are finally coming to television, but they won't be on Cartoon Network or Disney XD. Season 6 is coming exclusively to Netflix on March 7. Dubbed "The Lost Missions," Netflix will also make available the first five seasons -- including several "director's cut" episodes never before seen on television -- and the original "Clone Wars" animated film.

It's a big deal for several reasons. For one, it offers fans the chance to see how the long-running series will resolve. For another, it marks the first time a "Star Wars" property has appeared on the streaming service. Could there be more on the way, like maybe the original films?

Disney has an extensive licensing agreement with Netflix already for its film library. Maybe this will be the first step in bringing more Disney animated series to Netflix. We'd love to see Disney Afternoon classics like "DuckTales" and "Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers." Or maybe -- and this is a real long-shot -- Disney will make available the long-lost "Star Wars Holiday Special."

"Star Wars: The Clone Wars" Season 6, "The Lost Missions," premieres March 7 exclusively on Netflix.
